Jennifer Watson, APR, is the founder and principal of Elephant PR. She has provided strategic communications counsel to government, nonprofit, corporate and small business clients for more than 20 years. She is known for bringing business thinking to her nonprofit and public-sector work and for incorporating community perspectives and political acumen into the programs she develops for business clients.
Before launching Elephant PR, Jennifer served on the senior communications staff for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and provided executive communications counsel to senior company leaders. She also led public relations teams and accounts as vice president of MGA Communications, a regional public relations, marketing and research firm. Prior to that, she spent almost eight years in local government, serving as a spokesperson and overseeing community outreach, issues management, crisis communications and employee engagement programs.
Over the course of her career, Jennifer has provided in-house communications or consulting services to the Colorado Colfax Marathon, Colorado Division of Wildlife, Denver Foundation, FEMA, Friends of the Front Range Wildlife Refuges, Jefferson County, Jefferson County Human Services, Legal Resolution Center, Metro Volunteers, Point B, Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, Shell Oil Co., U.S. Army, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and more.
Jennifer has won numerous national and regional awards for her work, creating programs that have been honored by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and The Holmes Report/Inside PR. While at MGA Communications, she led the development of a pro bono communications program for nonprofits that earned her firm the Denver Business Journal’s Partners in Philanthropy Small Business of the Year Award and PRSA Colorado’s 2010 PR Team of the Year Award.
Jennifer volunteers regularly in the community. In addition to tutoring in local schools, she has held board or committee leadership positions with the Jefferson County Head Start Foundation, Metro Volunteers and Pura Vida Ministries.
Jennifer earned a master’s in journalism and mass communications research from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a bachelor’s in political science from Grinnell College. She is also Accredited in Public Relations (APR) by PRSA.
